What is a W-9?

Form W-9 is how you give your Taxpayer Identification Number to a client who needs to report payments to the IRS. If you're a freelancer, contractor, or consultant, every new client will ask for one before your first invoice gets paid.

The form stays with your client. They use it to prepare 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, or 1099-K forms. You don't file it with the IRS yourself.

Why use this tool?

  • No login, no email wall, no signup
  • PDF generated in-browser using pdf-lib. Zero network requests.
  • Your SSN/EIN never leaves your device
  • Clean, professional formatting every time
