Pricing update: $1 per member, from the first member

Miru's cloud pricing is changing. No more free tier — every member is $1/month from day one. Self-hosting stays free. Here's the reasoning.

No more free-for-5: Miru Cloud is $1 per member per month from the first member. Self-hosting remains free.

Here’s the reasoning.

Why

  • The free tier became a support queue, not a conversion engine. Too many free workspaces went quiet after signup without ever billing a client through Miru.
  • Pricing is positioning. “Free forever” says side project. It attracted users who churned the moment tracking time took effort, and hosting them cost real money.
  • The teams actually running their billing through Miru were subsidizing the workspaces that used it least. Backwards economics for a small open-source company.

What changes

  • Cloud: $1 per member per month, from member one. A 5-person team pays $5/month. A 30-person agency pays $30/month. Every feature — there’s only one plan.
  • Self-hosting: still free, still MIT-licensed, still the full product. If $1/member doesn’t work for you, run it yourself. We mean that — the guide is in the docs.

Why $1 and not $9

Every competitor charges $8-15 per seat and gates features behind tiers. We could copy that. We’re not going to.

$1/member is the honest price of running this product well as an open-source company that doesn’t pay for ads. The math stays trivial: recover one forgotten billable hour per member per year and Miru has paid for itself many times over.

Put it to work

Run one cleaner billing cycle in Miru.

If this article is about tracking time, billing clients, comparing tools, or automating work, Miru is the product version of that idea. Start for $1/member, invite the team, and send the next invoice from tracked work.

What you get

  • Time tracking, invoices, expenses, and payments in one place.
  • $1 per member per month. Free if you self-host.
  • Open source, with CLI, API, MCP, and self-hosting paths.
See Miru

The article is the argument. Miru is the workflow.

Track the work, approve the hours, send the invoice, and get paid without bolting together three separate tools.
